Part Four: The Day(s) That Joe Proposed

Bri couldn’t get over was how GIANT Joe was. His 6’4 height towering over her 5’5 average self was something she really needed some time to adjust to. She truly was amazed. She remembers seeing him in her tiny apartment kitchen thinking – this dude doesn’t even fit in here!

Joe was taken back over Bri’s amazing smile. It was genuine, warm, and just plain cute. Even before Bri said her first words, she was laughing – a laugh that Joe will never forget.

They stayed up and talked for hours and hours that night.

On one of their first dates, Joe took Bri to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden – the place with the questionably large cherry and spoon. This was the place we took our first selfie. Right here. Look at these babies.

This is the first time someone took a photo of us together, too! That someone else was a stranger. The type of stranger you couldn’t re-ask to take your photo because they were busy with all these kids running around. Or was it dogs? We don’t remember. We just wanted a cute picture with the famous cherry on the spoon (because what else do you go to the Sculpture Garden for?). Well. We got one. And it turned out like this…

Womp, womppppp.

After the garden, we headed to Bri’s mom’s house. Bri’s family was having a big get together that night. Like, the WHOLE extended family. She knew it would be a lot for Joe just to meet her four older brothers, we didn’t need to involve the rest of the family too! Obviously Bri had to get Joe out of there before everyone showed up. This was only their fourth date!

As Bri was walking Joe to the door, her mom, who was chopping veggies up for the evening, proceeded to follow Joe to the front door and tell him that he should come to our giant family event! It’d be so fun! Really, please stay! Seriously, stay!

This would’ve been a really sweet invitation if Bri’s mom wasn’t waving a chef’s knife at Joe the entire conversation. She clearly did not realize what she was doing. Joe was terrified but felt like he couldn’t say no (would he get stabbed?! Who are these people?!). But Bri saw the fear in his eyes, so she was quick to intervene. She said NOPE! He’s gotta go! Before Joe had to make any (what he thought) possible life or death decisions.
